Agnitus for Autistic Children: Use to Support Autism Empowerment

Agnitus for Autism Empowerment

The Common Core State Standard curriculum guidelines state what a student should know in English and mathematics by the end of each grade. However, children with Autism or an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often require a special form of education that’s based on more than just their grade level. They need something that’s catered to their own personal learning experience. That’s where Agnitus comes in. Agnitus’ adaptive learning program utilizes Common Core Standards to ensure quality material, but it also takes a unique approach and works at the child’s pace for custom educational activities.

Designed for children ages 2-6, Agnitus is a tablet (iPad, Android, Kindle) app that has over 45 education games. Tablets, specifically iPads, can be wonderful tools for Autistic children. Since an iPad employs a touchscreen, the device is more intuitive for children who have learning or coordination difficulties. Most children who use the iPad find that tapping and sliding motions are much easier than typing or moving a mouse*. iPads help Autistic learners deal with sensory overload by focusing on images rather than words. In the past, Autistic children would often need bulky communication equipment which cost up to $15,000. Now, the iPad is available for a much more portable and affordable option*.

With that in mind, Agnitus created an app where children could learn through play by seeing, touching, hearing, and doing. The app helps both Autistic and non-Autistic children learn through rich, multisensory feedback and gentle instruction. Games are designed to draw the children’s attention to the most important details while using play feedback to positively reinforce goals. This personalized approach helps children overcome attentional issues to remain engaged.

Parents, teachers, and other caregivers can also get involved with their children’s progress through Agnitus’ learning reports. Inside, the child’s academic strengths and weaknesses are listed, pinpointing the skills in which extra practice may be needed. Creative suggestions for offline enrichment activities are also provided.

Through Agnitus, kids learn math and language skills such as counting, tracing letters, pattern recognition, and reading. It’s free to try, but the full experience can only be accessed through a monthly subscription. Each monthly subscription purchased through this link provides a $2.50 donation (at no extra cost to you) for Autism Empowerment!
